Object Description
Chinese hardstone flower model in a cloisonné enamel planter
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 20cm, width 12cm, depth 9cm
This superb flower model brings together a host of precious stones, placed inside a cloisonné enamel planter decorated with floral motifs.
The planter utilises a stunning pale blue ground, that is decorated by various white blooms with colourful shading. The gold lip, feet, and cloisonné borders add a touch of luxury to the base.
Within the planter sits several white agate petals, which mirror the white floral design of the planter below. The petals are centred by an orange beaded stigma, which brilliantly contrasts the pale hardstone. Agate is believed to promote concentration and positive energy, imbuing the object with a spiritual significance. The petals are surrounded by angular hardstone leaves, and the variegated brown shade of this gemstone provides a superb contrast to the flowers themselves. The leaves and flowers sit on thread-wrapped metal stems.
With its charming design, this flower model exemplifies the stunning objets d’art being made in China during the 20th century.
