Object Description

A large and impressive Chinese famille noir porcelain vase hand painted with decorative panels with birds, animals and scholars objects dating from the early to mid-20th century. The tall rouleau shaped vase stands on a narrow round unglazed foot with recessed base with a wider cylindrical shaped body and funnel shaped neck with wide bowl shaped top with a raised rim. The vase is hand decorated with various shaped panels several with birds amidst flowering shrubs, one with a Foo dog in a fenced landscape and smaller panels containing scholars objects. All are painted in colored enamels against a white ground and all are set within a black painted surround heavily decorated with floral designs, fruits and butterflies with formal borders painted around the upper and lower edges. The vase has a blue apocryphal six character Yongzheng mark to the base.
