Object Description

A Superb Quality 18th Century Chippendale Period Mahogany Carver Armchair, Of Rare Bold Proportion, Having Exceptionally Rich Carved Decoration To Elegant Pierced Splat Back, Over Scrolling Moulded Arms And Old Needlework Tapestry Seat, Raised On Square Chamfered Legs & Stretchers.

A fantastic quality and elegant mid 18th century desk chair which is constructed from the richest possible mahogany timbers and boasting incredibly crisp carved decoration. This chair also boasts unusually large proportions and has real presence and importance to it.

Very much fit for purpose there is no significant historic damage to speak of, just the expected old scrapes, scuffs, scratches and digs which have of course blended in beautifully over time, adding to the overall richness of the colour and patina.

It is also nice to find an old needlework covering which, whilst we cannot guarantee is original to the chair, is certainly very old and really adds to it. There is a strong possibility that it is the original covering of course, we just can’t be certain. Overall that tapestry is in good condition, a little worn in places but not worn through, and overall a little dusty, although a good steam clean has really brightened it up now.

As with all items we offer for sale the chair has been inspected at our workshops by our highly skilled, traditionally trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish, ensuring that it is ready to place immediately into the home or office, before being offered for sale.
