Object Description
Fine mid 18th century early George 3rd Chippendale mahogany carved bird-cage tripod table in basically un-touched original condition. The base is a gorgeous design with nice shape turned column with simple fluted decoration. The legs are beautifully carved and shaped with eagle claw and ball feet. All the carving is proud as it should be on a genuine example. The round top has a wonderful original carved edge with a small raised bead moulding and is one piece of timber.
The birdcage has nice early turned supports and has its original shaped wooden wedge. The brass catch is an old replacement. I think the table may originally have had very small leather wheeled castors on the bottom of the legs.
The table is in very good condition and is a nice colour. There is a very small hairline crack to the top near the edge.
Genuine 18th century tables such as this don’t turn up very often, most you see are either 19th century copies or plain tables that have been carved up later.
