Object Description

A Charming And Rarely Found 18th Century Mahogany Chippendale Period Childs Chest Having Superbly Figured Top Over Four Drawers With Replacement Pierced Plate Brass Handles Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout.

This fabulous childs chest is constructed from a high grade of mahogany which is highly figured and clearly the decorative impact of the piece was a string consideration during its original construction. It also has a real elegance, which in all honesty is difficult to convey over images and video, but suffice to say that although at first sight this piece may appear relatively plain, and “square” it is anything but that in the flesh, exuding elegance, class and sophistication.

The dimensions are absolutely perfect to allow it to be used for a whole host of different practical and functional purposes in modern day living, from a bedside table to a living room coffee table alongside the settee. It could even be used in the home office alongside a desk, or even in a small alcove somewhere like an entrance hall for storage of keys and such like.

Children’s furniture is generally much rarer than its full size counterparts, normally made to the same specifications, but on a much smaller scale, specifically for the children of wealthy families to use at the same time as the full size versions were commissioned.

Circa 1760.

Height 28.5in.
