An unusual and rare Chippendale Period Mahogany Architect’s Table/ Reading and Writing Table, the rectangular top with a slide out section to access the hand scoop for the easel adjustable centre section with a removable book ledge above a drawer pulling forward and supported on the split section front legs with a gilt tooled leather inset slide retracting to reveal two hinge-lidded compartments with a pull out ink drawer to the right side and a pull out candle slide to both sides, the whole raised on square section chamfered legs with inset brass barrel casters and having moulded edges with re-entrant corners. This piece retains all the original handles, lock and drops.
The handle to the main drawer is a pattern favoured by Thomas Chippendale and seen on many of his commissions.
