This collection of three refined silver and wood boxes was crafted in the 20th century.
Each box mostly features a smooth silver finish all around apart from the hinged lids. These are decorated with a masterful selection of symmetrical engine turned motifs, adding an individual touch to each. In addition to this, the largest box features a central rectangular cartouche which can be inscribed with a special message.
Two of the three boxes include high quality wood lining. Within the largest piece, a deep brown wood with a shiny finish lines the storage compartment whereas the inside of the medium sized box is lined throughout (both the reverse of the lid and storage compartment). The lining in this piece includes a division enabling one to separate and neatly store precious pieces.
The medium sized box bears several markings: ‘SJR’ for the maker S J Rose & Son, London mark, silver purity mark and the date code for 1973. The largest box is stamped with an indistinct mark alongside ‘800’.
Of a pared-down but elegant design, this collection of silver boxes would act as superb storage pieces for one’s treasures.
