Object Description
Contemporary Ziegler Sultanabad Rug – Handwoven in Iran
1.92 x 1.60 m
Ziegler Sultanabad carpets such as this example were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, to complement European furnishing tastes. Their unique grand scale drawing, quiet formality and understated colours have made them sought-after pieces in stylish homes across the UK and Europe.
This piece is a contemporary reimagining of these earlier Zeigler Sultanabad carpets, finely hand-woven in lustrous wool and with natural vegetable-dyed colours. The rich sage field works to compliment the fresh colours in the floral motifs, in tones of ivory and sky blue, with red accents. It features an impressively large-scale drawing, relative to its smaller format, in an understated palette which lends the carpet a modern feel.
A timeless example, to compliment a variety of settings.
