Object Description
A Walking Stick made of ash, with bamboo handles, that can be converted to a Stool.
The bottom section of this Stick has a sprung, hinged clip that releases it and allows the X frame legs of the stool to extend. The bottom section also has a brass lined hole to one end that fixes over a pin to the X frame legs to hold it in place as a stretcher. This prevents the stool from folding under you during use.
The seat has its original canvas but we have reinforced it to the underside to provide a strong seat. The Walking Stick was listed by the Army & Navy CSL in their catalogues at the turn of 1900 in the Guns section under Shooting Seats. It was available with either a canvas or leather seat and they described it as ‘Suitable for shooting, fishing, sketching etc. ; forms when closed a walking stick’. The dual purpose design of this Stool is very effective. Circa 1900.
Please note that the video does not show this stool but another to the same design.
Size as a stool is given. The full length as a Walking or Shooting Stick is 34 inches (86.5 cm).
