Object Description

Copeland Majolica bust which features head and shoulders of a woman on a bed of leaves. Sits on a socle base. Colouration: white, turquoise, green, are predominant. This piece represents Clytie the water nymph, daughter of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys in Greek mythology. She was one of the 3,000 Oceanids.

Object Condition

Very Good. No restoration. Small, stable, inconspicuous bruise to reverse, on green leaves. KILN EFFECTS: thin glaze application to join between chest and her robe. Similar, where hair rests on her shoulders; a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the base.
