Cypriot Red Polished Ware Jug

Object Description

A spherically-shaped, Middle Bronze Age, Cypriot, red polished ware jug. The vessel features a large globular body, which leads to a curved spout and looped handle. The majority of the vessel is covered with angular geometric and dotted designs, with four small nodules around the circumference. The glaze is mostly red in colour but with areas of black hues. The vessel is able to stand unaided.

Object History

From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000. From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.

Object Condition

Fine condition. The vessel is whole but has received substantial repair. Some small gaps between the fragments and remnants of adhesive still visible. There is some deterioration of the glaze and small scratches consistent with age.
