Object Description

A fine Cypriot red polished ware jug from the Early-Middle Bronze Age. The vessel features a globular body with a rounded base. The shoulders taper in to a long cylindrical neck leading to an out-splayed rim. A single loop handle has been applied from the shoulder to the middle of the body. A small pointed lug is displayed on the opposite side of the handle on the neck. The vessel is further enriched with incised linear geometric motifs. These include zig-zags, dots and diagonal lines across the neck, body and handle.

The jug does not stand unaided.

Date: Circa 2700-1900 BC

Object History

From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000. From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.

Object Condition

Very fine condition, some chips to the rim and some scratches along with encrustation to the surface.
