Object Description
Decorative Bust of David, after Michelangelo. Probably French or Italian, c.1960–1970
A substantial decorative plaster and composition bust depicting David, after the celebrated Renaissance marble by Michelangelo. Finely modelled with flowing hair and idealised youthful features, the sculpture was produced as part of the mid-20th-century revival of classical forms popular in European interiors.
The bust originates from the collection of the Southsea Shakespeare Actors, Portsmouth, reflecting the enduring association between classical sculpture and the theatrical arts. Its impressive scale and strong sculptural presence make it an ideal statement piece for a library, hall or drawing room.
Retaining its original aged surface and displaying excellent decorative impact.
