Object Description

A highly decorative pair of late 19th century bronze table lamps in the form of Classical Grecian figures.

The lamps consist of two Grecian female figures both dressed in Classical headdress and robes, one holding a chelys which was a stringed instrument, the common lyre of the ancient Greek period, with a convex back of a tortoiseshell, the other figure holding an artists’s palette.

Each figure standing next to a decorative column which forms the lamp with a shade above, all supported on a decorative base and supported on circular ebonised wooden plinths.

Each lamp has a British Registration Design diamond mark to the base but unfortunately this cannot be deciphered, these lamps were probably originally gas lamps and converted to electric at a later date.

This pair of lamps are in very good condition for age, are in working order and can go straight into a home, however we always recommend having lighting checked by a fully qualified electrician prior to use, price includes shades.
