Derrick Greaves was born in Sheffield where he first worked as an apprentice to a sign-writer before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art (1948-52). He became one of Britain’s most important late twentieth century artists, initially gaining acclaim in the 1950s when he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale along with the other Kitchen-Sink painters with whom he was associated. He is represented in many public collections, including the Tate Gallery, London who also hold an impression of this print.
