Object Description
A rare and very unusual pair Doulton Burslem Coaching art pottery vases dating from around 1909. The earthenware vases are of tall square column form standing raised on a wide square platform base and is decorated with a two coachman figures to the body with banners, one reading The Coachman and the other An Old Jarvey. A further decoration of horse drawn coaches are applied around the top of the vase with a top green painted edge. The vases are made in a drab colored biscuit like clay within Fine black sand grain particles in the clay and with a natural glazed finish. The vases has black printed early Royal Doulton Marks to the base and are numbered D3118 with further impressed number marks 6883 and an 08 or 09 mark probably denoting the year.
The collection from which the vases were acquired recorded these as from an unrecorded shape and size.
