Object Description
A very stylish Aesthetic Movement Doulton Lambeth floral design Vase made for the Art Union of London by renowned artist Emily E Stormer and dating from around 1885. The stoneware vase stands on a narrow unglazed round foot with a round bulbous body and tall shaped slender neck with slightly widening cup shaped top. The body of the vase is decorated with a repeat pattern of stylized floral designs within a raised beadwork border with beaded elements within the design. The patterning is incised against a natural salt glazed ground with fine swirl patterning. The floral designs are painted in tones of blue with white beading with mottled browns and green glazes applied around the lower neck and to the upper and foot rims. The neck of the vase is similarly decorated with flowers and leafy stems and the vase bears impressed makers marks to the base along with an incised EES monogram for Emily E Stormer and assistant marks for Emily Partington and Emma Burrows.
