Object Description

A very stylish pair Art Nouveau Doulton Lambeth floral design mugs by renowned artist Eleanor Tosen and dating from around 1905. We believe that these are original designs by Eleanor Tosen bearing her personal monogram mark. The stoneware mugs are of tall slightly widening cylindrical shape with a wide round foot and raised ring designs around the lower and upper body. The mugs have grooved strap work handles and both have a hanging stylized vine style design with small flowerheads applied around the body below. The patterning is hand painted in tones of brown and blue and set against a mottled green ground with brown glazes applied to the handles and around the foot rim. The mugs have a natural salt glazed finish to the inside. Both have impressed makers marks to the base one with an ET monogram for Eleanor Tosen along with assistant marks for Violet E Hayward while the second mug has marks for Nellie Garbett with a further unidentified mark. Both mugs are numbered 9839.
