Object Description

A c.1840 rosewood drop dial wall clock with brass inlay to the octagonal surround. The case is in excellent condition, the brass inlay laying flat to the wood, the octagonal surround edged with an ebonised moulding. The short trunk is also brass line-inlaid and has a brass-edged pendulum viewing window, flanked with substantial foliate earpieces.

The restored 9.5-inch dial is convex and signed for the maker Upjohn, London.

The dial is protected by a convex glass to the latched  cast brass bezel.

This is a quite special fusee timepiece in many aspects:

the movement has very heavily shaped brass plates – the shoulders are truly curvaceous

the plates are united with four heavily knotted pillars

the original steel hands are also out-of-the-ordinary, and very elegant. They have an open thistle design.

Object Condition

The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years. Our price includes UK mainland delivery.
