Object Description
An early 18th century walnut, feather-banded and crossbanded tallboy, with oak sides, the top having a deep moulded cavetto cornice with the upper part configured of 3 small drawers above three full width graduated drawers, the base with three further graduated drawers all with brass loop handles with shaped back plates and the whole raised on shaped bracket feet.
All the drawers are feather banded and crossbanded and the choice of highly figured walnut for the drawer fronts carefully quartered all the way across the front produces striking patterns.
The oak sides strongly suggest that this was made explicitly to fit in a niche or alcove where the sides were not seen as much as the front.
