Circa 1840 Price :£ 5,950-00p.

Height:29.5”,75 cms, Width:54”, 137 cms, Depth:36”, 92 cms.

Note: The locking bars for the pedestal drawers is what we see on contemporary Wellington Chests and is a more secure way of locking these particularly in this instance where the hinged stiles have upstands secured behind the top frieze drawers when shut. Only once the frieze drawer has been unlocked and opened slightly, is it possible to access the pedestal drawers.

Gillows made a comparable George IV Period Library Pedestal Desk for Mere Hall, Knutsford supplied to Peter Langford-Brooke (d.1840) with the same locking stiles, panelled pedestals and doors and rounded, moulded plinths. See Christies sale catalogue, Monday 23rd. May 1994 lot 179
