Object Description
Early Hadji Jalili Tabriz Carpet, c. 1890
3.80 x 2.80 m
Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their fine weaves and remarkable adherence to the traditions of Classical Persian rug design. This elegant c. 1890s example is associated with the Master weaver, Hadji Jalili, well known as the artist behind some of the most exquisite and highly sought-after pieces of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of which can be spotted in grand historic homes across the UK and Europe.
A great example from the Hadji Jalili workshop, this elegant 19th century Tabriz carpet has an understated monochrome drawing and earthy colour combination of ivory, tan, olive green, caramel and muted chocolate brown. The central field is framed by over two dozen individual borders which are still present on all four sides, a unique feature and rare for a rug dating c.1890. It is in good practical condition with its original fringes intact at both ends.
A sophisticated decorative rug to complement a contemporary or classic setting.
