Object Description
A fine terracotta oil lamp, likely produced in the ancient city of Gerasa (present-day Jerash) during the early Roman Period. The lamp features a circular discus which leads to an arched nozzle, flanked by emphasised concavities. There is a perforated knob handle to the rear of the discus. A large central filling hole is marked by multiple concentric circles. The slightly convex shoulders display foliate motifs moulded in relief, composed of two vine tendrils with pomegranates branching off the handle. Three bunches of grapes and a horizontal band of moulded dots decorate the channel towards the nozzle. The lamp sits on a slightly raised, circular foot.
