Early Victorian Skeleton Clock by Joseph Watson & Son, Cambridge

Eight day chain fusee movement with fine wheelwork set between steeple shaped plates joined by four ringed baluster pillars and standing on silvered rectangular plinths, resting on a shaped mahogany base with original glass dome.

Brass base plate signed ‘Joseph Watson & Son, The Market Place, Cambridge’.

The movement regulated by a silvered platform escapement resting on two plates. Silvered dial with Roman numerals and inset subsidiary seconds dial at XII o’clock with original ‘blued’ steel hands. C.1840

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists Joseph Watson as working in Cambridge c.1830-1840.

Object Condition

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
