Object Description

Edwardian Double Fusee Bracket Clock, Dent, London

Edwardian bracket clock housed in a mahogany arch top case with inset front panel banded in brass with brass inlay, stepped plinth with dentil moulding decoration resting on four brass ball feet. Brass silk lined sound frets to the sides of the case with decorative carrying handles and silk lined sound fret to the back door.

Cat brass bezel with convex glass opening to the painted dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands, signed Dent, London.

Substantial eight day double fusee movement with anchor escapement and original pendulum, striking the hours on a coiled gong, the backplate marked C.V and numbered 611.

The Dent name is perhaps most well known for being the maker of the great clock of the Houses of Parliament known as Big Ben, installed in 1859. Dent was also clockmaker to Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales

Object Condition

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
