Object Description
Edwardian silver centrepiece suite by Horace Woodward & Co. London
English, 1905
Epergne: Height 27cm, width 45cm, depth 26cm
Smaller comports: Height 13cm, diameter 14cm
This ornate centrepiece garniture is comprised of five pieces: a central epergne featuring one large central bowl flanked by two smaller bowls; a pair of larger tazze; and a pair of smaller tazze. The bowls throughout all pieces are adorned with repoussé and chased foliate motifs, including scrolling friezes of vines. The central bowl of the epergne is raised on a square profile plinth—a form that matches the two larger tazze—while its flanking bowls are raised on figurative mermaid supports. The silver throughout is fully hallmarked for Horace Woodward & Co. of London, and the pieces are engraved ‘B’.
