Object Description
A very fine Ancient Egyptian amulet depicting the wedjat eye, or Eye of Horus, carved from vivid blue faience. The details of the eye have been delicately and skilfully incised, with the brow, adorned with hatched incisions, the almond-shaped eye, and the cosmetic lines portrayed through clean linear incisions. Beneath, the rectangular cheek marking features two vertical grooves, and a final incision curves from the base of the eye to a spiral at the back of the amulet. The colour is exceptionally well-preserved, evenly coating both sides of the amulet in a bright sky-blue pigmentation. The pupil of the eye is formed from a raised hemisphere of black faience. The reverse of the amulet is smooth and unworked. The amulet is perforated horizontally for suspension, and features minor earthy encrustations and slight discolouration to the reverse.
