Object Description

A fine Egyptian amulet, moulded from a pale, turquoise faience, in the form of a baboon. The baboon is depicted seated on an integrated base, with its legs bent and its arms by its side. Its facial details are still visible with a protruding round nose and flat head. Its stomach is adorned with lines to represent its fur and its tail extends from the baboon to the base of the amulet. A suspension loop has been added to the reverse.

Object History

Ex English collection, AB, acquired 1920s-40, passed by descent.

Object Condition

Fine condition. Earthly encrustations to the surface including the forehead and other signs of wear as consistent with age.
