Object Description
A fine Egyptian amulet of the god Harpocrates, modelled in the round from a vivid blue faience. The amulet depicts the god in his Hellenistic form, as a child with curly hair, standing with his feet together. A large rounded stomach, with an indentation representing his belly button, protrudes outwards, under his raised right arm. His right hand is bent up across his chest, with his forefinger pressed against his lips, a typical pose of the god. His facial features have been rendered crudely, with his eyes, nose, and mouth visible. The curly locks that frame his face have not been continued on the reverse, but the musculature of his thighs and behind have been detailed. Across his back, beginning at the bottom of his head, an integral loop has been added for suspension.
