Object Description
A fine ancient Egyptian faience plaque amulet depicting the wedjat eye, or Eye of Horus. The plaque is square in shape with rounded corners. The obverse has been carefully engraved in an openwork style to portray a straight brow at the top, the large almond-shaped eye with a circular pupil, the vertical cheek marking beneath and a final marking curving to a spiral at the back. Incised grooves add further detail and the openwork perforations in the four corners highlight the eye. The reverse is flat and unworked, and remnants of turquoise pigment survive at the edges. The amulet is perforated horizontally for suspension.
