Object Description

An Ancient Egyptian bilateral green faience amulet depicting the wedjat eye, or Eye of Horus. The plaque is oval in shape, with hatched, sloping incisions adorning the exterior of the encircling ring. In the centre, the eye shape has been crudely carved in an openwork technique, with the large almond-shaped eye in the centre beneath a horizontal brow bone. The vertical cheek marking and slanting protrusion are detailed beneath the eye. The reverse features the same design. A beautiful green glaze survives well upon both sides. The amulet is perforated longitudinally for suspension.

Date: Circa 664-332 BC
