Object Description
A rectangular, steatite plaque with hieroglyphs to the reverse and large cartouche. The obverse is decorated with a floral pattern of lotus flowers. The reverse is filled with various hieroglyphs, split into two registers. To the top is a slightly smaller register, featuring an oval cartouche. Within its centre is a large bird, in flight with wings outstretched, which transliterates as p3 or Pa. It features in the cartouche of Psusennes I. The rendering of this cartouche is crude, with some of the hieroglyphs missing. The hieroglyphs in Psusennes I transliterate as ‘Pa seba kha en niut mery Amun’ which translates as ‘The star who has appeared in Niut (Thebes), beloved of Amun’. The second register again features various epithetic hieroglyphs including the kheper beetle sign and a rendering of the god Amun.
