Object Description
A large, Egyptian, steatite scarab with hieroglyphs to the reverse. The obverse features a stylised head and clypeus, formed from gentle moulding and incised lines. The prothorax and elytra are formed from slightly curving linear marks. The reverse features a hunting scene with a large figure at the centre. He wears a kilted skirt, known as a shendyt and a rounded crown on his head. He can therefore be identified as a pharaoh wearing the blue crown of Egypt, known as a Khepresh. The pharaoh grasps a spear, raised above his head, that he directs towards a smaller figure, most likely an enemy captive.
