Object Description
A delicate, ancient Egyptian, steatite scarab with apotropaic hieroglyphs to the reverse. The obverse features a finely stylised, moulded head and clypeus. The prothorax and elytra are formed from incised linear marks. Wide triangular indentations mark the feet to each side, To the reverse are three finely incised hieroglyphs. To the top is an undulating cobra, placed above a stylised red crown. To the right is a club, which transliterates as ḥm. It was used to denote the pharaoh’s ‘Majesty’.
