Object Description
A set of eight mid 19th century mahogany chairs by Bell & Coupland Preston.
These very comfortable chairs have buttoned leather upholstered seats and backs.
The chairs have a mahogany frame and turned and reeded front legs with square kick out back legs.
Each chair is stamped on the frame underneath “Bell & Coupland Preston”.
The chairs are very well made, were re-upholstered in the late 20th century and are in good condition with some marks from use.
A reference to Bell & Coupland can be found in the book “Gillows of Lancaster & London” by Susan E Stuart, volume 2 pages 217-218, and showing an old photo of their premises. (Circa 1850)
