Object Description

Antique Veramin carpets from central Persia are recognised as exceptional workshop weavings, renowned for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings and balanced variety of vegetable-dyed colours.

This piece is in very good to excellent original condition, still retaining its original fringes at both ends and original borders on all four sides. Its harmonious vegetable-dyed colours and hand-spun wool have aged nicely.

A timeless example to complement a wide variety of settings.

Object History

This early 20th-century fine Veramin carpet has a remarkable tight weave which explains the clarity of its drawing. The light sky-blue field complements the generous large-scale drawing, framed by a wide terracotta border. The charming pomegranate design is derived from early Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century and symbolises prosperity, fertility and longevity.

Object Condition

Very good to excellent.
