Object Description

A rare and very stylish Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement Art Pottery vase mounted on three owls by renowned artist Emily E Stormer dated 1880. This unusual stoneware vase stands raised on a flat round base with a raised curved edge and incised with leaf designs. The base is mounted with three owls perched on ball bases and supporting the round body of the vase on their backs with outspread feathers. The vase has a domed upper body with tall slender neck with a trumpet shaped top. The body of the vase is decorated with stylized leaf designs some set within fine raised bead borders. The vase is hand painted in tones of brown, blue and green with white beading. The vase bears an impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with the date 1880 and is indistinctly numbered ?42. The vase has incised monograms for Emily E Stormer along with assistant marks for Jessie Bowditch and Mary A Davis.
