Object Description
A Very Attractive Mid 18th Century Walnut Tea Caddy Having Re-Entrant
Moulded Corners, Crossbanded And Strung Decoration Retaining
Original Brass Handle & Key Escutcheon
(Tea caddies are of course one of the most collectible antique items
around. There is such a wide range of materials used, dates made and
qualities that there really is something to suit every taste in this field. Their
original purpose was of course to keep the incredibly expensive tea leaves
locked away from wandering hands. This particular example retains a
wonderful warm colour and patina and is a relatively early example. It also
retains its original brass wear and comes with an operational key should
you wish to restore it to its original use!)
