Object Description

A Delightful Regency Period Simulated Coromandel Waterfall Bookcase Of
Diminutive Proportion Having Two Shelves To Upper Tier Above One Frieze
Drawer And Further Shelf Raised On Elegant Original Turned Feet With
Attractive Gilded Decoration Throughout

( This charming little bookcase is of incredibly sweet proportions and exudes
Regency elegance and charm. The finish is actually what we refer to as
“simulated’, or “faux” in the trade which means an item is constructed using
a much less expensive, simpler, readily available wood and then the maker
uses his skill to create a finish which looks like one of the much more expensive
veneers which were being used at the time. On this occasion it has been
simulated to look like Coromandel, which was an exotic wood from the east
which was being used at the time, but incredibly difficult to get hold of. The
simulation of it on this bookcase however has been superbly executed and
until very close inspection it really does look the real deal. The elegant gilded
decoration is also a lovely extra touch which really adds to the piece.
From a purely practical perspective the bookcase is such a useful size and
would fit in so many different spots around the home, it also has a little concealed
drawer which is useful for tucking away those little bits and pieces that may end
up getting lost elsewhere.)
