Object Description

A fine cast bronze socketed spearhead, from the European Bronze Age. It features a leaf-shaped blade, tapering to a point, with upward sloping shoulders. A prominent, raised central midrib on the blade leads to a long, tubular socketed shaft, into which a wooden shaft would have been inserted. The shaft has been perforated with circular rivet-holes at several places throughout, which would have been used to ensure a more secure attachment. The bronze is covered by an attractive green and brown patina.

Date: Circa 1200-600 BC

Object Condition

Very fine condition. A beautiful dark patina and slight encrustation to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chipping to the edges, scratches, pitting, and indentation. Slight cracks and perforations to the socket, particularly at the base of the spearhead and in the middle. The spearhead has been professionally cleaned.
