Object Description

A fine European Bronze Age socketed axe head featuring a side loop. Its rectangular body extends to a slightly convex cutting edge, whilst the socketed mouth is strengthened by thickening. The casting seam is visible to the top and bottom of the axe from where the two pieces have been fixed together. A small loop used to secure the axe head to a wooden shaft has been attached to the lower section of the axe.

Date: Circa 13th-9th century BC
Period: Late Bronze Age

Kuizenga collection, the Nethelands, formed from 1970s onwards.

Object Condition

Fine condition. Patination to the surface. Minor chips to the cutting edge.
