Object Description

This extremely rare unrecorded Victorian silver castle top card case was made in Birmingham in 1846 by Nathaniel Mills and depicts The Liverpool Collegiate School and measures 4 inches high by 2 13/16 inches wide and is decorated with flowers and foliage, scrolling acanthus leaves and the Collegiate in high relief to the front and to the back the same flowers foliage and scrolling acanthus leaf pattern with a central shaped cartouche that is vacant. The condition of the card case is excellent likely due to the red tooled leather case with burgundy coloured velvet lining, it is marked with the queens head to the inside lip where it opens and to the reverse below the opening with the makers mark, the lion passant and the anchor, above the opening it is marked with the makers mark, the date letter and the monarchs head.
The case needs a little TLC but the card case itself is superb, a very sought after item from an excellent maker.
