Object Description
Circa 1880. An exceptional pair of George II style burr and figured walnut open armchairs. The crossbanded burr walnut backs with a central vasiform splat with parchment scrolls to the top and sides are flanked by shaped arch supports. The fluted shaped arms with scrolled ends and shaped supports. The lift out seats upholstered in gros-point hand tapestry on a pale blue background over a moulded seat rail with shell decorated fronts. The chair supported on cabriole legs with shell carved knees and pad feet in front and shaped out swept rear supports.
