Object Description
This 19th century Sarouk-Feraghan carpet has a remarkable fine weave which explains the clarity of the drawing and a less-common overall design instead of the traditional central medallion motif. Each drawing in the central field is cleverly repeated in a different shape and colour combination, framed by a wide terracotta border and a further dozen detailed ones. The colours in the harmonious colour composition are all vegetable dyed which have aged beautifully. A handsome, elegant example with a quiet formality to blend in a wide variety of settings.
