Object Description

This large and extremely rare provincial George III silver 3 piece tea set was made in Exeter in 1800 by Richard Ferris, the tea pot measures 11 3/8 inches handle to spout and is approx 5.5 inches at it’s widest and stands 7 inches tall, it is beautifully engraved with oak leaves and acorns and has a cartouche either side bearing the scripted initial F, it has a gadrooned border and a hinged lid with a band of leaves around the edge topped off by an oblong finial, the swan neck spout also has acorns and oak leaves engraved on it, the handle is also engraved with a twist design and has a shell thumb piece, it is hallmarked under the base with the makers mark struck 5 times, the sugar bowl measures 7 1/8 inches handle to handle by approx 4.25 inches at its widest and stands 3.25 inches tall 4.5 to the handles, it is engraved with the same designs as the teapot and also bears the initial F in script in a cartouche to either side, a gadrooned border and a shell thumb piece on both handles of the bowl, it retains it’s original gilding inside and stands on 4 ball feet and is marked with the makers mark struck 4 times, the cream/milk jug again is matching and measures 4 inches to the lip and is 5 6/8 inches handle to spout by 3.25 inches wide and is marked underneath with the makers mark struck 4 times. Exeter hollow ware of this period is a very rare find and probably a one off weighing 36.55 ounces or 1137 grams and in excellent condition.
