Object Description

An extremely rare George I (1715) pollard oak bureau on stand of superb patina and of small proportions, the style typical of Queen Anne/early George I design.

This elegant bureau on stand consists of pollard oak with walnut herringbone banding to the top and fall, all of superb patina.

The fall retaining the original lock and key opens to reveal a tooled leather writing surface with stepped interior with central door and a selection of drawers, pigeon holes and a secret drawer, the lower, longer drawers having the appearance of three small drawers.

This leading down to the two drawers, both of pollard oak with walnut herringbone bandings, oak linings and original brass handles, the top drawer of concave form, the loopers for the fall to either side of this drawer, the lower drawer of flat front form with shaped frieze below.

The sides also of pollard oak with shaped frieze below, all supported on oak cabriole legs terminating with pad feet with an oak panelled back.

This bureau on stand is in very good condition for age with evidence of old repairs which is to be expected, it is of stable construction and can go straight into a home or collection.
