Object Description
A Victorian Faux Oak Painted Tin Box.
The box is a good size and will take A4 papers with a little space to spare. It is well made with a good gilt brass carrying handle and a moulded edge to the top and bottom where they meet. The lock is stamped VR for Victorian Regina along with a crown, Patent and Secure Lever Lock. It retains its key.
The tole box is elevated by its paint work that simulates oak and the top also has a decorative gilt border running around its edge. The interior is painted in a vibrant green. Some of the paint has worn in places, as is apparent in the images.
The box would probably have been used to keep important documents and papers, much like a Despatch Box, as opposed to being a cash box. Late 19th Century.
