Object Description
Figurative cold-painted bronze lamp by Franz Xaver Bergman
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 46cm, width 19cm, depth 29cm
This fine bronze lamp is modelled in the Orientalist manner that prevailed in Vienna during the early twentieth century. The lamp is by Bergman, perhaps the leading producer of this type of work, and is crafted from cold-painted bronze. The lamp is modelled as a figure gathering his prayer rug beneath a suspended lamp. The bronze throughout is intricately modelled, and the cold painting is especially bright and vibrant. The underside of the lamp is marked ‘B’ for Bergman.
