Object Description

A fine 19th Century Chinese Canton export porcelain and French bronze gilt mounted / ormolu porcelain centrepiece.

Chinese / French – Circa 1880.

Brightly decorated in famille rose enamels with alternating panels of Chinese figures and birds with butterflies amongst flowers, on a green scrolled and gilt round, mounted on a bronze gilt twisted pedestal with beaded rim and flanking scrolls.

Offered in good condition having a very small L shaped split near the rim, this is shown in one of the images and points out more under photographic spot lights as is hard to pick out under normally lighting conditions, the gilt work is original and in very good order with a fabulous colour.

Made for the export market, this ornate bowl was designed to suit the ever growing fascination and popularity of Chinese porcelain ware and chinoiserie furniture in the middle of the 19th Century. The finely cast and bronze gilded base and supports would have been produced and mounted in France to give this quality Chinese porcelain bowl the desired affect for the European market.
