Object Description
Fine Anatolian Silk Rug
1.75 x 1.20 m
Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their fine weaves and remarkable adherence to the classic traditions of Classical Persian rug design. This elegant example is associated with the Master weaver, Hadji Jalili, well known as the artist behind some of the most exquisite and highly sought-after pieces of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of which can be spotted in grand historic homes across the UK and Europe.
This fine 19th Century Hadji Jalili rug is a fine example of its type, with an ivory medallion overlaid with delicate floral motifs and flanked by four terracotta spandrels, and well framed by a decorative, eight-part border, and with shades of a wonderful, muted sky blue throughout – all in gracefully aged vegetable dyes. The layout, with the bold central design framed by a wide border, is an especially striking composition, relative to this carpet’s smaller format.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its plain outer borders and short fringes preserved on all sides.
An elegant accent rug, to suit a stylish interior.
